Sierra Leone a country in West Africa has been through 10 years of ruthless and senseless war which has left thousands of people displaced and disabled, and thousands of children left as orphans. Even before the war, Sierra Leone was categorized by the United Nations as one of the world’s poorest countries. There is very little infrastructure such as medical care, educational facilities, water treatment, etc. Therefore there are not many employment opportunities.
Freetown with a population of over 1 million is the capital of Sierra Leone. About 18 miles east of Freetown is the second largest city in the western area of Sierra Leone, that is Waterloo with a population of approximately 20, 000.
After a devasted 11 years civil war, Friends of Mabureh is working to rebuild Sierra Leone in an effort to provide education for the less privileged kids in Mabureh and the surrounding villages. Mabureh Community School is now providing employment for 18 teachers and two night guards.
The Mabureh Community Junior High School is now completed and opened on December 18th, 2009
